ROCKRIDER AM100S v2 (2020)

We have changed these parts on the bike.

More info and our experience about the things we changed.

Manitou McLeod King Can54% more air volume than the standard McLeod.

I changed it without special tools. Steps are like, remove air from the can. Sit down on your bike (for keeping a pressure) and unscrew the can. When unscrewed, then you can start with unscrewing the bolds and get the suspension removed from the bike. This video helped me to understand more about this suspension. Adding the King Can was easy. Standard King Can set-up is large volume. You need to change it if you want intermediate volume. On this site, you can read a more inidepth review.

With the standard Manitou McLeod from Decathlon, I only rode in 2 positions. This was either completely open or closed. Now with this Manitou McLeod King Can you have exactly a lot more options. It feels much softer and responding. In my region, I now barely use position 1, completely open. Position 3 makes it very pleasant to climb. In general, this suspension now ensures that the bicycle is even more pleasant and stable to ride. This is an advisable premium upgrade for your bike.

Rockshox 35 GOLD upgrade 150 to 160mm

This is an easy upgrade and free.
Rockshox 35 GOLD from 150 mm travel to 160 mm by just removing the all travel spacers.

The difference is 1 cm, but you can feel the difference.

You sit more up straight. For me is climbing now easier, because of being more close to the handlebars. Going downhill gives more confidence. And now is it easier to do a wheelie.

This video can help you. And here you can find all the specs for the oil and nm.

Switching from flat pedals to magped Enduro! What about mud & magped Enduro? You can read all about this here.

Price: €150 - Weight: 530g (for 200N)

Ergon GA3 Large Grip Risky Red

The original grips gave me sleeping hands after some time. So I decided to buy the Ergon GA3 grips. These give me more comfort while biking, but also more certainty when descending. They support. Installation was very easy.

Price: €25 (januari 2021) - Weight: 115g (large)

Trail comfort grip with miniwing

The GA3 mini-wing offers the perfect combination of wrist support and trail performance; now offered in two sizes and seven colors providing the perfect fit and style for each individual rider. The GA3 optimally supports and relieves common wrist pain while the perfect ergonomics allows you the ergonomic control to take your ride to the limit.

Ergon SM Sport

After a good 2 hours of cycling, my buttocks started to suffer. The original saddle is not bad, it was just too narrow for me. I needed 160mm wide. That is why I decided to purchase the Ergon SM Sport saddle after taking the selector on their site. In the meantime, I have already done several rides with it for more than 2 hours and I can let you know that I don't have any problems with my buttocks at all. Very happy with this purchase.

Price: €55 (januari 2021) - Weight: 305g

The all-around MTB saddle

Whether touring, trail riding or all-mountain: The all around men’s MTB saddle offers the best riding comfort due to an optimized relief channel and sporty comfort padding. The flattened rear and the Y-shape guarantee ideal freedom of movement.

Stone 32T Oval  Chainring

Originally there is a 34T chainring on the bike. There was a 32T on my Rockrider XC50 at the time. Since the Rockrider AM100S is heavier, I wanted to be able to climb lighter and bought a 30T chainring. The climb went smoothly, but it was too light for my region, both for climbing and descending. Then I started reading about oval chainrings and decided to buy a 32T oval. With this, you actually have the following chainrings, the lightest point you have a 30T, and when pushing you've got a 34T. So you have everything you need. Climbing is now even better. You no longer have that dead point. Even when you drive through the mud, you really cut through it. This is a must to buy. Also, my legs aren't that tired anymore. Feels like someone is pushing you. It's fun!

Price: €35 (januari 2021) - Weight: 69g

Sram Crank Arm Bolt Kit Self-Extracting M18/M30 DUB

RockShox Bottomless Token

Yes, the Rockshox 35 Gold RL accepts Bottomless Tokens to easily custom tune the air-spring performance to best match your own riding style and suspension preference.
I used 2 tokes.

You can feel a real difference. This is an advisable premium upgrade for your bike.

203mm rotors front & rear

IIIpro cooling brake floating rotor increases special heat sink structure, after the heat treatment process, the heat sink is in seamless contact with the outer frame, which is equivalent to a thermal diffuser, heat can be quickly dissipated.

Rotor outer part use high-strength stainless steel material, inner part use 7075 ultralights thicken aluminum alloy material, full CNC engraving and milling, anodizing black and red color, laser marking, stamping.

75° five-pin fixed connection design, the most stable way to force, the floating structure can avoid the vibration caused by the longitudinal expansion of the disc when it brakes due to high temperature. Improve the safety of cycling.

Made in hollow design, high-strength while reducing weight, and the hollow structure helps to dissipate heat, drain mud, and drain.

Good to know: 180mm rotors will not fit on the rear due to the frame design. So 160mm and 203mm are the only sizes you can install on the rear.

THE TIRE STORY!

I was satisfied with the Hutchinson Toro at the front (and Taipan at the rear) for the fall and winter.

But spring & summer is just around the corner. So you start to wonder which tires am I going to choose. As a novice mountain biker, you often watch YouTube videos and you notice that many people ride with Maxxis tires. But are Maxxis tires so much better than Hutchinson? My personal opinion is that there is far too much choice with Maxxis and with Hutchinson and much less. Less is more? Who's to say. So that's why I started experimenting and you can read the rest below.

Spring / Summer

Still doubting which one to keep for this summer.
The Hutchinson Griffus seems firmer to me, but slightly more resistant when riding flat and climbing.

Front Tire
Maxxis Dissector 2.4 🏆

Troy Brosnan's go-fast signature tire.

Designed in conjunction with Aussie DH racer Troy Brosnan, the Dissector seeks to minimize drag while retaining cornering control. This versatile tire can be used as a front, a pair, or as a rear depending on trail conditions.

Front Tire
Hutchinson GRIFFUS 2.4

Born from the Racing Lab, a collaboration of elite athletes and engineers, the Griffus 2.4 is the ultimate rear tire for ripping big lines. Staggered, offset knobs provide a continuous contact patch for consistent, reliable traction while pedaling or braking, with a low lug height to reduce squirm. The RR Gravity rubber compound features firm structural support overlaid by a softer side density at the surface for cornering traction, with more deformation and slower rebound to help soak up big landings and hard hits. Pair with the Griffus 2.5 front for the perfect enduro combo.

Rear Tire
Hutchinson Kraken 2.3 🏆

The architecture of the Kraken’s knobs has been inspired by the Skeleton, the ultimate tire in terms of performance. Developed in 29 x 2.30, the volume of the Kraken allows to go down in pressure to bring a maximum of comfort and serenity in the most chaotic parts. The ultimate goal with the Kraken was also to design a tire that would not be too exclusive, only for XC athletes, but to expand its use to any mountain bike addict and trail lover.

Rear Tire
Maxxis Rekon 2.25

The architecture of the Kraken’s knobs has been inspired by the Skeleton, the ultimate tire in terms of performance. Developed in 29 x 2.30, the volume of the Kraken allows to go down in pressure to bring a maximum of comfort and serenity in the most chaotic parts. For me the 🏆 is Hutchinson Kraken because it roles faster for my region and the type of driving I like. Also in the corners I have more confidence with this tire.

Autum / Winter

Front Tire
Hutchinson Toro 2.35

Our most versatile front tire, the Toro is a perennial pick for Isabeau Courdurier, especially on days when changing conditions might transform a course mid-run. She loves the wide-spaced knobs, alternating square and diamond-shaped for ultimate mud-shedding abilities and deep bite in loose soils. The reinforced Hardskin casing and RR Enduro triple-compound rubber allow lower pressure for better grip and casing compliance without sacrificing efficiency. Tall side knobs offer consistent edge-to-edge attack even on the most challenging terrain.

Rear Tire
Hutchinson Taipan 2.25

If you had to pick one rear tire to run, whether trails are hardpack or mixed, rocky or loamy, the Taipan is it. The secret sauce? Well, it’s secret, but one ingredient is the wide-spaced chevron knobs, oriented for climbing and braking traction in the center, and deep-digging bite on the shoulders and sides. A relatively low lug height and tapered design limits efficiency-robbing squirm and sheds mud easily. A meticulously designed siping pattern on the base tread improves casing flexibility for grip in rocky terrain. Hardskin reinforcement from bead to bead helps fend off sharp rocks and increases tire lifespan. Pair with a Toro front tire.
